PROSOYA (PROgrama SOcial YAnachaga)
Prosoya lies in the vicinity of the village of Huancabamba, which can be reached on foot in 20 minutes, and has a town hall, a primary and a secondary school, a Catholic church, a small Protestant congregation, a few shops, two modest restaurants, and a football field.
In PROSOYA , 40 pupils, from the poorest of families, are given board and lodging. They visit the state-maintained secondary school in Huancabamba. In addition, they receive practical training in the different workshops of the welfare project, to prepare them for their future working life. PROSOYA owns 700 hectares of land, woodland and pastures at the edge of the National Park Yanachaga Chemillen. Furthermore, the program focuses on reforestation and communal development.
Christian Walenzyk of the (WSW-Media Filmproduktion) visited the project in 2009, and was so impressed that he made a film which you can view by clicking on “Film on PROSOYA”, regrettably, in German only.
The Hazienda is situated next to the Nationalpark, called Yanachaga-Chemillén.
